LEARN TO SWIM LEVELS OF ACHIEVEMENT

STARFISH/SEAHORSE

Parent and Child Water Familiarisation Classes, from 6 months

  • Your child will become familiar with the aquatic activities in a safe and fun learning environment.
  • The aim of the class is to provide an introduction to swimming skills, such as blowing bubbles, kicking legs and floating through activities and songs.
  • The parent/carer will gain the skills and confidence to practise with the child outside of class time.
  • The goal of the class is to have the child confident and independent of the parent in the water, and taking instructions from the teacher.

Parents’ Expectations

  • Keep in mind that a child’s ability in the water reflects their ability on land.
  • Each child develops at a different rate
  • A parent’s attitude to the water will also affect the child’s response. A positive, fun enthusiastic attitude will help make the child less fearful.
  • A child at this level will become familiar and at ease with the aquatic environment rather than “learn to swim”
  • Once your child is able to do reach and pull arms without your assistance and happy to take instructions from the teacher “generally 2.5 - 3 years of age” we will arrange lessons in the next level which are more structures “learn to swim” classes, incorporating the skills learnt in the parent and child familiarization classes.

Note: Generally Starfish classes accommodate 6 months-12 months of age and Seahorse classes accommodate 12 months – 3 years.
